Does Purdue Global accept my ADN credits?
Usually a substantial share, and often more than you expect. Purdue Global grants credit through seven separate routes and prior learning can cover up to 75% of an undergraduate degree. Transferred coursework needs a minimum grade of C−. The university does not guarantee transferability, so the ceiling is not an entitlement.
The seven routes
Most schools have one or two. Purdue Global was rebuilt around working adults and it shows in how many ways it will count what you already know.
- College transfer credit from prior institutions, minimum C− at undergraduate level
- Work and life experience, submitted for evaluation
- Professional training and certifications from employers and credentialing bodies
- Military training, active-duty and veteran
- Standard examinations and recommended courses
- Skills assessments, known as ASK, which let you test out of a course
- The portfolio course LRC100, for documenting experience, with five or more years of work history recommended
Why this is the most valuable hour you will spend
The BSN needs 180 quarter credit hours and tuition is charged per credit. Every credit granted is a credit you do not buy at $371. The difference between a thorough assessment and a lazy one is routinely five figures.
An RN who is granted 135 credits pays for 45. An RN granted 90 pays for 90. Same school, same rate, roughly $16,700 apart.
The limit that catches graduate candidates
Every route above that rewards experience rather than formal study is undergraduate-only. Purdue Global states plainly that graduate programmes are not eligible for credit for experience.
So an MSN candidate with fifteen years on the floor receives nothing for those years. If you are heading to graduate level, the generosity that attracted you to this school largely is not available to you, and that is worth knowing before you compare it with anywhere else.
How to get the most out of the assessment
- Request transcripts from every institution you attended, including ones where you did not finish.
- Gather employer training records, certifications and any structured professional development. These count here and are usually forgotten.
- If you served, get your military transcript. It is assessed for academic credit rather than treated as background.
- Ask specifically about ASK assessments for subjects you already know well.
- Get the resulting credit count in writing before you accept any quoted total.
The assessment is free and it happens before you commit. Doing it thoroughly is the single largest saving available at this school.
What grade do transferred courses need?
A minimum of C− for undergraduate transfer credit.
Is 75% guaranteed?
No. It is a maximum. Purdue Global states it does not guarantee transferability, and awards are decided case by case.
Can I get credit for nursing experience toward an MSN?
No. Credit for experience is undergraduate-only; graduate programmes are excluded from it.
