How does Purdue Global treat military and veteran nurses?

Military training is assessed for academic credit rather than treated as background. It is one of seven prior-learning routes, and for a service member or veteran it is often the single largest reduction in what the degree costs. Instructional materials are provided at no cost to serving undergraduates.

Why this school in particular

Purdue Global was rebuilt around working adults, and military-affiliated students are a large part of that population. The prior-learning apparatus is unusually broad as a result: transfer credit, work and life experience, professional training and certifications, military training, standard examinations, skills assessments and a portfolio course.

Most universities offer one or two of those. Having all seven matters, because service records rarely map neatly onto a single route.

The arithmetic for a veteran

The bachelor's requires 180 quarter credit hours and tuition is charged per credit. Every credit granted for training already completed is a credit never bought. For someone with a corpsman or medic background plus civilian licensure the granted total can be large, and it moves the cost of the degree by five figures rather than by a discount.

Books

Instructional materials are provided at no cost to U.S. military servicemembers across undergraduate programmes. For other undergraduates the same fee is waived, so books are covered either way, but for servicemembers it is stated explicitly.

What to bring to the assessment

  1. Your Joint Services Transcript or service equivalent.
  2. Civilian certifications earned during or since service.
  3. Civilian college transcripts, including institutions you did not finish.
  4. Documentation of structured unit or employer training.

Bring all four. An assessment can only credit what it can see, and the routes here are broad enough that things people assume will not count frequently do.
